New Alienware M15x available, and videos too

Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009

So the long-rumored Alienware M15x has been released. Here you have the most relevant information:

  • It looks like a smaller M17x Allpowerful, but without numeric pad. It is heavy for a 15″ (from 4 kg), but it is more portable than the 17″ version (from 5.3 kg).
  • The full range of Intel Core i7 Mobile is available: 720QM, 820QM and 920XM. There are some benchmarks of the Core i7 Mobile available.
  • The fastest card available at the moment is a single Nvidia GeForce GTX 260M, with a GT 240M available too for the less performance-hungry. The GT 240M has been reviewed in the Acer Aspire 5739G, so you can find out some benchmarks at Notebookjournal and Notebookcheck (hint: it is very similar to an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650). Mobile versions of the ATI Radeon HD 5000 series are expected soon (Fudzilla, Portables4Gamers); can we dream about them to be an option then?
  • Base price is 1499 USD (or 1179 GBP, or 1399 €).

Some useful links: more detailed info, pics and videos at Notebookjournal; support information, with manuals and specifications (found at Engadget); and finally, the order page at Dell US and Dell UK.

By the way, Alienware has new desktops computers too.

The video from Notebookjournal is available from Youtube, so here you have:

Find the differences: new Alienware products or new game? (Engadget)

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

I found funny the differences between the Spanish and English versions of this news in Engadget:

The English version is about new Alienware products while the Spanish one is about a new game ¿?

Rumors include a new 15″ Alienware laptop (M15x), likely with Intel Core i7 Mobile processors, and maybe a desktop computer (at the moment there is only one Alienware desktop). It seems that a third product is going to be presented, maybe the famous curved display, that has been demoed but is still not available, or a smaller Alienware laptop (12-13″). Dell talks about that but does not give much new information.

The official announcement is expected in Thurday, so let’s wait a few days more…

Update: the Spanish version has been corrected

Update 2: Engadget has heard the rumors too.

Alienware news: M17 updated with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4850 CrossFireX, M17x reviewed

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009

I red rumors about this update being impossible but it is finally here: the Alienware M17 can be configured with the 1 GB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4850 CrossFireX.

http://clkuk.tradedoubler.com/click?p(61747)a(1596407)g(16996164)url(http://www.alienware.co.uk/product_detail_pages/M17/m17_overview.aspx?SysCode=PC-EU-LT-M17&SubCode=SKU-DEFAULT)

While the M17 lacks some features of the M17x, such as the possibility to run on integrated graphics to save battery or the cool design, it’s a bit less expensive (around 250 € cheaper with the 4850 CrossFireX compared to the GTX 260M SLI).

If you are interested on this laptop, have a look at Alienware USA and Alienware UK.

And speaking about Alienware, a few new reviews of the M17x have appeared: at CNET, Computer Shopper and the Notebook Review forums.

Alienware M17x full review, with benchmarks (at Notebookjournal.de)

Friday, July 10th, 2009

So, finally, a decent review of the Alienware M17x!  The reviewed specimen is configured with a T9600 and a single GTX 260M, so don’t expect huge performance numbers, but it’s a good review. The M17x scores very high in screen quality and gets 148 minutes of battery life! Read: Notebookjournal.de, English translation

The Alienware M17x, one of the best laptops of the moment (and probably the best one if you are for a gaming laptop) is available for preorder at BestBuy for 2099 USD. The configuration features an Intel Core 2 Quad Q9000, Nvidia GeForce GTX 260M SLI, 4 GB DDR3, 500 GB HD (7200 rpm) and WXGA+ screen (1440×900). The same configuration at Dell.com would cost you 2424 USD.

I have just found these gameplay videos in Youtube, uploaded by the user nochio1. The configuration of this M17x is the top of the line: Intel Core 2 Extreme Quad QX9300, GeForce GTX 280M SLI and 8 GB of RAM. Here you have:

I daily search Youtube for videos of the M17x, stay tuned!

Nvidia GeForce GTX 280M SLI benchmarks (Notebookjournal.de)

Friday, June 19th, 2009

Notebookjournal.de published Nvidia GeForce GTX 280M SLI benchmarks, and they are the first ones as far as I know. The games tested are Call of Duty 4, World in Conflict, Lost Planet, Race Driver GRID, Far Cry 2, GTA IV and Call of Duty: World at War. The processor is an Intel Core 2 Duo T9900 at 3,06 GHz.
Very interesting if you are planning to spend a lot of money on an Alienware M17x with such cards.
