Dell Inspiron 17 and ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4670 in the Dell Studio XPS 16 available in Europe

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

After a few weeks being available in the US, now the Dell Studio XPS 16 is available in Europe with the updated graphics card ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4670. This card is a worthy upgrade from the 3670, but can lower the battery life of this laptop; anyway, it’s not designed to be far from your desk… The Dell Inspiron 17 is available, too.

Interesting laptops spotted during the week

Monday, June 22nd, 2009

It is hard to be on holidays and try to keep up with tech news… During the days I spent in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria there have been news about interesting laptops:

  • Dell Latitude Z: ultraslim business laptop powered probably by Intel CULV processors.
  • Dell Vostro 1220: affordable 12″ business laptop powered probably by Intel CULV processors, too.
  • Dell Inspiron 14: 14″ affordable home laptop. The Inspiron Mini 11 seems to have been spotted, too.
  • Sony Vaio NW: home laptop, the cheapest series in Sony’s laptop line. The most interesting model (and likely the top of this series) sports an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570 and BD player for less than 800 USD.
  • Updated graphics cards in other Sony Vaio series: up to now I have noticed the availability of the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650 with 1 GB GDDR3 in the FW series (16″) and the 4570 with 512 MB GDDR3 in the SR series (13″; this is a lot of graphical power for a 13-incher!).

Did I miss something interesting?

Dell updates: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4330 available for Dell Inspiron 15; Dell Vostro 1320, 1520 and 1720 launched

Friday, April 3rd, 2009

I have been busy this week and I was not able to follow the news as usual, but here you have two pieces of news concerning Dell laptops that I found interesting:

ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4330 available for Dell Inspiron 15

Until now the Dell Inspiron 15 was only availabel with the integrated graphics card Intel GMA 4500MHD, but now you can get it with the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4330 with 256 MB dedicated (this upgrade costs an additional 100 USD or 60 €). According to the specs (ATI, Notebookcheck) this card should be quite faster than a HD 3450, but it is hard to tell without any benchmarks. The Dell Studio 15 is going to be upgraded soon to the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570 (already available in some countries).
Dell Vostro 1320, 1520 and 1720 launched

Dell has refreshed the Vostro laptops with an updated platform (Centrino 2) and newer graphics cards: Intel GMA 4500MHD or GeForce 9300M GS in the 1320 and 1520 models, and optional GeForce 9600M GS in the 1720. In addition the new models are lighter (excepting the 1720), support up to 8 GB of DDR3 RAM and SSD hard drives and are bloatware free. At the moment they are not available in Europe, but the 1×10 models are available at lower prices. In Span the discounts expire on April 8th, so that is a suitable date for the availability of the new Vostros.

Dell Inspiron 9, available in the US and UK

Thursday, September 4th, 2008

Today has been launched the Dell Inspiron 9 (unofficially also known as mini Inspiron and Inspiron 910) in the US, UK and other countries.

The first reviews are available too: Notebook Review and Laptop Magazine just published theirs. It looks like it is a good netbook (it gets over 3 h of usage with the 4-cell battery) but with drawbacks (mainly the keyboard).

You can configure your Inspiron 9 at Dell US (from 349 $) or Dell UK (from 299 £).

Update: More reviews have been published now: PC Magazine, AnandTech.

Dell Mini Inspiron: pictures of Dell’s low-cost ultraportable

At the moment we don’t know a lot about it, but there are some pictures of Dell’s low-cost ultraportable and they look really promising.

New Inspiron models by the end of May (Inspiron 1435, 1535, 1735)

Tuesday, May 13th, 2008

Interesting information has been leaked about the new Inspiron models from Dell: the 15.4″ model, Inspiron 1535, is going to be released on May 26th, while the 17″ model, Inspiron 1735, is going to be released on June 9th (both dates are for the US, there is no info about other countries). The 14.1″ model, Inspiron 1435, will be released later, probably in October.

New Inspiron laptops show a new attractive design and offer features not available in current models, such as fingerprint reader, optional backlit keyboard, 3G modem… There is not much info about specs: for example, current Inspiron 1525 lacks dedicated graphics, and it would be a very interesting option for the new models.

The refreshment of the Inspiron line complements the ones of the Vostro and Latitude series, but at the moment there is no info about any refreshment of the XPS line.
