Dell Studio XPS

Dell Inspiron 17 and ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4670 in the Dell Studio XPS 16 available in Europe

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

After a few weeks being available in the US, now the Dell Studio XPS 16 is available in Europe with the updated graphics card ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4670. This card is a worthy upgrade from the 3670, but can lower the battery life of this laptop; anyway, it’s not designed to be far from your desk… The Dell Inspiron 17 is available, too.

Dell Studio XPS 16 with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4670 almost ready?

Friday, June 19th, 2009

According to Notebook Italia the update to the Dell Studio XPS 16 to the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4670 (from the current 3670) could be imminent. Their sources are not very clear, but if you are going to purchase this laptop and you need a good gaming performance, maybe it is better to wait a little.

Update: while in the web the 3670 is the only card shown (correction: IT IS available at the Dell’s site), some users at the Notebook Review forums seem to have ordered their laptops with the 4670, so you could try ordering by phone and ask for that card.

The GeForce 9500M found in the Dell Studio XPS 13 (1340) is in fact a 9400M G + 9200M GS Hybrid SLI

Saturday, January 17th, 2009

So the guys at the Notebook Review forums found it: the Nvidia GeForce 9500M found in the Dell Studio XPS 13 is not a single graphics card, but two: an integrated GeForce 9400M G plus a GeForce 9200M GS with 256 MB of dedicated memory, working in a Hybrid SLI configuration. The expected performance is higher than that of the 9400M G alone and lower than a 9500M GS, so the naming seems right, but maybe the actual performance is not as high as you expected when you saw the 9500M model number.

In addition, as Hybrid SLI is only supported under Windows Vista, so users of other operating systems will only be able to use one of the cards (probably the 9400M G).
